About The Making Patch

CREATE  INSPIRE  ENJOY

Hello, I’m the founder of The Making Patch – a proud Stockport mum with a lifelong love of creativity and making.

Like many parents, I wanted to give my daughter every opportunity to grow in confidence and discover what she loved. When she was diagnosed with dyslexia, I became even more passionate about finding creative ways to support her learning, encourage her imagination and celebrate her unique strengths.

As I searched for activities in our local area, I was surprised to discover there were very few creative clubs for children, and even fewer that focused on the joy of crafting. I knew there had to be other families looking for the same thing—a welcoming place where children could explore their creativity without pressure or expectations.

That’s how The Making Patch was born.

Why We Started

The Making Patch was created to make crafting easier for families.

As a parent, I know that finding the time to plan activities, buy supplies and tidy up afterwards isn’t always easy. I wanted to create a space where parents and carers could simply turn up, relax and enjoy being creative together, without the stress of organising everything themselves.

For older children, The Making Patch provides engaging, hands-on craft experiences that encourage them to explore their imagination, build confidence and develop new skills in a fun and supportive environment. Wherever possible, our activities are inspired by themes from the National Curriculum, helping children reinforce their learning through creativity while discovering that making can be educational as well as enjoyable.

Our sessions are about so much more than creating something to take home. They’re designed to help children develop confidence, social skills, creativity, imagination and self-expression. They also provide a valuable creative outlet for children who have spent the day concentrating hard at school and simply need time to unwind, make, explore and be themselves.

A Little Creative Corner

Crafting has always been part of my life. Whenever I have a spare moment, you’ll usually find me knitting, crocheting, creating macramé, embroidering, beading, painting, making collages or simply enjoying mindful colouring. I love learning new crafts and sharing the happiness that creativity brings.

The name The Making Patch represents exactly what I wanted to create—a little creative corner where ideas can grow.

A place where children feel welcomed, imaginations are encouraged and every child has the freedom to create in their own unique way.

At The Making Patch, we don’t believe there’s a “right” way to make something. We celebrate curiosity, experimentation and the confidence that comes from trying something new.

Our Values

Everything we do is guided by three simple words:

Create

We give children the freedom to explore, experiment and make something that’s uniquely their own. Every creation is celebrated because every child is different.

Inspire

Through exciting themes, quality materials and carefully planned activities, we encourage curiosity, imagination and a lifelong love of creativity.

Enjoy

Learning happens best when children are having fun. We provide a warm, friendly and nurturing environment where children can relax, make friends and enjoy every step of their creative journey.

Looking Ahead

Although The Making Patch is just the beginning, the dream is much bigger.

In the future, I hope to expand our creative community by offering holiday clubs, home education sessions, creative subscription boxes filled with inspiring projects to enjoy at home, and even craft groups for adults—our Maxi Makers—because creativity has no age limit.

My hope is that The Making Patch becomes a place where families make memories together, children discover confidence through creativity and people of all ages are inspired to keep creating long into the future.

Whether your child is joining us for their very first craft session or is already a budding maker, I’d love to welcome you to our little creative corner here in Stockport.

Together, let’s Create. Inspire. Enjoy.
